About

Kim has been in private practice as a counsellor and psychotherapist since 2010. She is the Principal Psychotherapist at KSP Counselling and Psychotherapy. Kim has a strong background in oncology nursing and supportive care, having spent the last 30 years working with people affected by cancer, from diagnosis to bereavement. Through this experience, she has embraced research into the importance of diet, psychological well-being, and lifestyle on the prevention and diagnosis of cancer.

Special interests

People with a diagnosis and carers affected by cancer, from diagnosis to bereavement, and a strong interest in death, dying, and grief. Kim follows the educational webinars, tools, and support of the Australian Centre for Grief and Bereavement.

Style

Kim works with clients supporting them with curiosity and empathy about their beliefs, values, and learned behaviours. In the counselling space, Kim encourages her clients to reflect on their relationships and behaviour and understand their values and meaning to make changes in their lives. Kim provides psychoeducation and information to support her clients' understanding of medical diagnoses, particularly cancer diagnosis and treatment impact. She strongly supports her clients' capacity to improve their health and physical well-being.

Modality & Approach

Client-centred approach, utilising Existential and Narrative understanding with empathy and compassion. Brief Solution Focused model, constructing optimistic solutions in replacement of negative thought and behavioural patterns.

Family, especially my grandsons. As well as the ocean and walking the beach.

Walking and being present with the ocean.

Walking with meaning.

What is your favourite place in Coffs Harbour?
In the region, it's Urunga as I've had the opportunity to live there for short periods.
