About

My name is Josh and I am a young, male counsellor registered with the Australian Counselling Association.

I pride myself on being able to build meaningful connections with clients.  My experience is primarily in early intervention and adolescents, servicing a range of 5-25-year-olds.  I specifically have an interest in working with disengaged youth and supporting them to be able to achieve their goals.  However, I am able to take on a diverse range of clients. My primary focus is promoting and facilitating growth for neurodiverse clients to develop their capacity to manage their emotions, understand themselves, set boundaries, communicate effectively and engage in positive mental health practices.

I have completed an APAC-accredited 3-year sequence in Psychology, gaining a Bachelor of Science (Psychology) from ANU. I have also completed a Post-Graduate Diploma in Counselling from the University of Canberra and will have completed my Master’s shortly. I also have a great deal of experience in early intervention. I have experience working in schools with 7 years of experience in various roles. I chose to specialise in early/adolescent intervention as it is a crucial developmental time when people often need support and direction. My services are targeted to help develop an individual’s capacity to engage in their world to the best of their ability.

My approach is based on activities. I use a wide range of activities to engage my clients to reduce the perceived pressure of therapy and engage them. This is especially useful for Neurodivergent clients as it provides a medium for clients to engage in. I believe the most important part of the counselling process is to establish a safe and secure connection with the client. I also collaborate with key stakeholders in their lives to help upskill them to provide the client with environmental support. Importantly, I understand that a range of factors could be impacting my clients. I actively collaborate and foster autonomy in the therapy process.
